It is official: Doctor Who: The twelfth Doctor to be unveiled in live BBC1 special this Sunday.
Matt Smith's replacement will finally be revealed in front of a live studio audience.
The time has finally come: the twelfth Doctor will be revealed this Sunday in a special one-off live show on BBC1. The half hour show, which will air at 7pm, is to be hosted be Zoe Ball who will unveil Matt Smith’s replacement in an interview in front of a live studio audience
The announcement, which has been long-awaited by fans, will also be backed up by special guests including old Doctors, companions and celebrity fans, who will speculate and recall their favourite Time Lords from across the show’s 50 year history.
Current Doctor Matt Smith and show-runner Steven Moffat will also both give interviews about what has become one of the biggest roles in television. The latter says of the special, “The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the TARDIS. For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve.”
Ever since Matt Smith announced his departure from the show in June, speculation and rumour has raged around who will take his place after he regenerates in the Christmas special. Names mooted for the role has included Rory Kinnear, Peter Capaldi and Ben Wishaw. There has also been fierce debate on whether the next Doctor should be a woman.
Steven Moffat had previously called the search for a twelfth Doctor "terrifying", saying, "There’s a very big range of people who could play it and different ways you could go with it. We must get this right. One false move and the show’s over.”
The decision to reveal the twelfth Doctor on live television in front of a studio audience is a far more lavish announcement than Matt Smith: who was revealed on a special ‘Meet the New Doctor’ edition of Doctor Who Confidential. Considering that Smith was a relatively unknown name when he was unveiled in January of 2009, it could be inferred that the new Doctor is a bigger name to warrant such fanfare.
Ben Stephenson, Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, said of the announcement: “We can't wait to unveil the next Doctor... Amongst all the speculation and betting, there has been lots of fun and intrigue at work as we've been using the codename Houdini as a decoy! It’s the biggest secret in showbiz, even those working with the new Doctor on other projects at the moment have no idea they are in the presence of the 12th incarnation."
The secret will be simulcast live on BBC America.

Should doctor who have ended after season 1?
Russell The Davies has come out in saying he never thought the revived series would go beyond 1 season, and after that he intended to write the gay tv series he currently working on.
I'm sure some may think "yes, it should have stopped" but it got me thinking.
Doctor who nearly never happened.
It could have stopped at Chris, we'd never have gotten David or Matt or Peter, and certainly not John Hurt. What ever your feelings towards each doctor or season, more than likely your favourite episode, character, monster, doctor, companian or even tardis nearly never existed.
It's been 10 years since the shows revival, and thank my lucky stars Russ
Who's better Russell or Moffat?
Who was a better show runner, who had better stand alone episodes and who has better cliff hangers, and who was just better over all?
Russell T Davies or Steven Moffat
I think that both are equally good show runners as both have big shoes to fill, Russell had to bring it back and Moffat has to keep it going, the only difference is Moffat has the harder job these days as he has the Internet analysing the crap out of his episodes, where as Russell didn't get that when he started. Russell accidentally re created a pop culture for the 21st century where as moffat now has to keep that alive.
And as for stand alone episodes I would say moffat is
I HATED SERIES 8!!
It was awful, Peter CapOLDIE is such an asshole to everyone he talks to, it's as if the doctor has now forgotten what's it's like to be nice at all, he's just Malcolm Tucker in the TARDIS. And a female time lord, what a load of shit. Worst idea ever to turn a male time lord into a female time lord, especially the master. And Clara talk about annoying, she's learns nothing throughout the whole series, no character development whatso ever in this series from any character. And why in the F*#k does the Doctor use the consol room as his work area, he has a whole world of a tardis in the back room. And the worst episode by far was Listen. I mean s
Missy Who? *Spilers*
Last nights episode revealed the identity of the newly introduced vixen of the show, Missy. Missy first appeared in Deep Breath just at the end. And fans immediately sprang forth with theories. She's River, she's Clara, she's Donna, she Rose, she the master, she's the valeyard, the Rani, Romanna.. The list is endless, and each one just as insane as the last. But last night one of them was Actually Right.
This revaluation has now split the fans, but it hasn't split me I'm all for it.
Because fans are never happy, they wanted a male time lord turned female time lord, they got it, they wanted the Master back they got it, they wanted gallifrey ba
